1977 Panasonic WV-3700 portable color camera
A single tube, two-piece portable color camera for industrial, or broadcast ENG use. Very small for a color camera of the time, the exception being that it required a separate CCU.
The mating VTR for this camera is the Panasonic NV-9400, a portable U-matic VTR. To shrink down the camera, most of the electronics were put in the CCU. The design allows the CCU to be attached to the VTR, making them a whole unit. The NV-9400 already weighs close to 30 pounds, and with the CCU on it, it would weigh about 40 pounds!! The camera connects to the CCU with a 20 pin cable, which looks similar to a VGA connector. This was one of Panasonic's first single-tube color cameras.
The camera tube is a 1 inch vidicon. All camera controls, including WB, are on the CCU. Unfortunately, I don't have the CCU for this camera. Got it on eBay years ago for $45, and it was the camera head only. The removable pistol grip is also missing. For now, it will remain untested. CCU is needed!!
