1981 Sony DXC-1640 portable color camera

This is a portable industrial grade color camera, using Sony's Trinicon tube, like all of Sony's single-tube color video cameras did. this was the upgraded version of the DXC-1610, which was made three years earlier, in 1978. This specific camera is fully functional, and works well.

I had to do a little repair on it a few years ago, when I got it, which was replacing the inferred filter, because it had got moister into it, and was clouded up. It's pretty rare, but this issue does happen to cameras from time to time, especially Toshiba IK-1610s. I wasn't able to un-cloud the filter, so I had to discard the old filter, and I was lucky to have an IR filter from a destroyed Panasonic PK-450 camera from the 80s, that I replaced it with. The old filter was circular, and the new one was square. I had to use tiny strips of gaff tape to hold the new filter in, which is not the best way to do it, but, in the moment I just wanted it done and it was the only way I could find to attach it. The repair is still holding up just fine, now 2 years later.

DXC-1610s and 1640s are everywhere, and are not rare. In fact, you can't throw a rock at eBay and not hit a DXC-1610 or 1640. But, the issue, is that the stupid sellers think that they're worth $200 - $400. Unfortunately, this is what's happened to a lot of this old equipment in the last few years.

On the side, (see photo 4) there are two trim pots for red and blue balance, and a white balance meter for setting them. Below them, is a trim pot for setting the video level, and a switch, to switch from manual and auto level. Also, on the bottom, right next to the shoulder pad is an int./ext. sync switch. It is very service friendly, just unscrew a flat-head screw on each side panel, and they swing open easily.
