1978 Sony DXC-1610 portable color camera
The DXC-1610, was the shoulder mounted version of the DXC-1600, which came out 4 years earlier, in 1974. The 1600 required a massive CCU, but the 1610 has no CCU, so it was Sony's first self contained portable color camera. I have been looking for a DXC-1600 for years. Does anyone have one for sale? The zoom lens has the usual iris control, but the focus and zoom are controlled with one ring, which you turn to focus, and pull back and fourth to zoom. On the side, there are two trim pots for red and blue balance, and a white balance meter for setting them. Below them, is a trim pot for setting the video level, and a manual/auto level switch. On the bottom of the camera, is an int./ext. sync switch. This camera is in mint, brand new condition, there's not one scratch on it! I don't think it was ever used much.
When I got it a few years ago, I turned it on, and it made a nice color picture, but after a few minutes, the color would fade and it was completely black and white. I stored it for the last few years, and recently, I got back out and turned it on, and not only was the picture black and white, but it was barely a picture; I couldn't even make out anything, on the monitor, it just looked like blurry blobs of black or white shapes, and this is a whole new problem. Now that I think about it, it seems like this is a power supply issue in the camera, also because I turned the beam and focus pots and it didn't change anything, indicating that it's not getting the right voltages.
I will test those power caps and see if that's the issue.
