1975 JVC CR-4400U portable U-Matic VCR
This being a portable VCR, it used U-Matic S tapes, which are a little smaller than normal U-Matic tapes. It meant to be used with JVC's GC-4800 or 4400 color cameras. Unlike other portable U-Matic VCRs of the time, this one doesn't need an external color adapter.
This VCR was rebadged by Panasonic, as the NV-9400.
There is a VU meter to the left on the front of the machine, transport controls, and a flip-out door. The controls under it are for channel balance, color, line/camera, playback mode, tracking, meter, and audio limiter. The "meter" control is for changing what the VU meter is reading. On one side there is a 10 pin EIAJ camera connector, and on the other side (not shown) there is a 12V DC input, video and audio in/out, and RF out. On the back is a battery compartment.
While this machine was designed to be portable, it's very heavy and a lot bigger than it looks.
